WHEN ATTEMPTING TO REDUCE YOUR COSTS, YOU WANT TO PACK YOUR STORAGE UNIT TO THE BRINK, WHETHER THIS IS FOR PERSONAL OR BUSINESS USE. WE UNDERSTAND YOU ONLY WANT TO HIRE ONE STORAGE UNIT AND FITTING EVERYTHING IN IS INTEGRAL, SO HERE ARE OUR TOP TIPS FOR PACKING.

Gilmorton Storage have a range of storage units available, with various sizes and prices. We can always find the ideal space for your needs that fits within your budget.

TIGHTLY PACKED BOXES

Depending on how you store items within the storage unit, making sure your boxes are tightly packed is essential. Most people will choose to move items into boxes before moving to the storage unit and this can help you pack the unit as tight as possible.

Depending on how much space you will be using within the unit, this may not always be required. However, by packing your boxes tightly when first using the unit, this will leave more space to continue to use as you decide to store more and more items here.

YOU SHOULD CONSIDER THE ITEMS YOU ARE PACKING AND MAKE SURE EACH ITEM IS ALLOCATED TO A SPECIFIC BOX THAT CAN BE PACKED TIGHTLY TOGETHER.

USE PACKING EQUIPMENT

You may decide to wing your packing and just hope everything fits in easily and nothing is broken. Although you might pull this off, we would suggest investing just a small amount of money in actual packing equipment.

Bubble wrap, fill chips, picture frame boxes and cardboard boxes- all these items will keep your possessions safe and ensure breaks will not occur easily. When it comes to moving items back to your own property, belongings will always be in the same condition and you will have no worries over the packing of your storage unit.

HEAVY ITEMS FIRST

It may not seem like it will make a big difference but packing your heavy items will make your life a lot easier. Once everything is packed, you don t want to be manoeuvring the heavier items anymore. By placing the heavy items at the back of the storage units, they will not have to be moved again, so packing your storage unit is completed much easier.

Heavier items are usually stronger than other items as well. By placing your more fragile items into the container last, you can place them in a space where you know accidents will not occur. This way fragile items are not at risk of being damaged whilst in the storage unit and lighter items can be moved around with more freedom.

USE FURNITURE

To make the most of your storage container, you must use every single inch! If you are storing furniture within the container, using this as a place to store boxes and other items higher up provides a massive benefit.

By moving furniture into the storage container, these items will use up the most of your floor space. As you want to save as much floor space as possible, you can then begin to store items in and around your furniture, without wasting anymore space.

PLAN WHAT YOU STORE

Deciding to use self-storage, you are most likely running out of room at your workplace or within your home. However, not everything taking up your space is actually needed and often, storage units will not need to be used for every item.

Although you should still store some items away for use in the future, you should also consider what you won t need. There could be several items that are completely useless and won t be needed at all. By planning what you actually need and getting rid of any waste and excess items you no longer require, you can save a lot of space within the storage unit.
